Without a doubt, exercise at any time of the day beats no exercise at all. But are there physiological advantages to working out in the morning versus evening, or vice versa? In various studies, scientists have found that subjects tend to do slightly better on measures of physical performance – including endurance, strength output, reaction time and aerobic capacity – between 4 and 7 p.m.

Comment: Hi Bob, You probably don\'t remember me but I had to reach out to you after reading your article/comparison on Planet Fitness. I cracked up all the way through it. First, let me just say that there is NO comparison between Gold\'s and Planet Fitness it\'s apples and oranges. The only reason why anyone who\'s dedicated to fitness can even tolerate that place including myself, is because they are dirt cheap and I can always run outside or ride my bike for a workout. Here\'s some more to add to your list from a Planet Fitness Member (shamefully admitting it) They are dirty, the dust resembles the ruins of Pompeii that I walked in Italy. The mgmt does not exist nor do they care about any concerns The place is FALLING APART, the equipment is broken and not replaced, they haven\'t had matching ankle straps for the past 3 months. The cardio equipment – 5/10 machines say out of order. The cables sometimes only one side works, this is really funny to observe, people getting read to do flyes and realizing that one side is broken and theres NO SIGN to tell you that! The staff act as personal trainers-cleaning crew-equipment repairmen. (they ARE very nice though, I feel bad for them) The best part of it all, the owner knows exactly what he\'s doing, feeding obesity and hoping that no one shows up so he can collect his pay, it\'s disgusting and not at all comparable to what Gold\'s is. I\'m sorry that financially it made more sense to go there then to stay with your team, as a fitness enthusiast, I can throw rocks in my backyard, lunge around the kitchen or do anything in the name of saving a buck these days…. Hope all is well with you and your staff and I\'m certain that as the lack of attention to detail continues over at your \"competitor\'s\" place, more people who actually don\'t eat bagels, pizza or tootsie rolls will make their way back home to Gold\'s, maybe even me…. Have a good day, Send Cindy my regards if you have a moment!

Some consumers may be eating at home more often or making do with old clothes, but it seems they won’t easily give up on fitness — or their gym memberships, anyway. People are turning to their health clubs for a sense of community, says Erica Schietinger, spokeswoman for Chelsea Piers Sports Center Health Club in New York City. Schietinger says at Chelsea Piers, members are coming more often and staying longer, partly because some have lost their jobs. ‘Members find comfort in their master swim team or sitting in the café,’ Schietinger says. The club recently hosted an event for members to network and promote their businesses.
