Keep The Drink Flowing During A Workout

by bobroche on August 4, 2009

Most gym and health club exercisers look forward to working up a good sweat during a workout. But during the course of an exercise routine, many people may overlook the need for maintaining proper fluid balance and hydration. Here are a few hydration tips to keep in mind while working out:

  • Drink before, during and after a workout; 17 to 20 ounces of water two hours before exercising; 7 to 10 ounces of fluid every 10 to 20 minutes during exercise; and 16 to 24 ounces of fluid for every pound of body weight lost after.
  • Select a drink with appeal. While water provides a great source of hydration, milk, juice, soft drinks, coffee, tea and sports drinks offer good alternatives.
  • Fit hydration into your schedule. Stock up on beverages so they are available for workouts.
